Here at Lifeways in Leek we are looking for Support Workers to join our fantastic team. Ideally you will have previous experience in a Care / Support Work, however, if you are new to the role and have a passion for helping others to lead their most independent lives then Lifeways can offer you excellent training and ongoing support to enable you to enjoy a rewarding career with us.
At this service we have 11 service users a range of male and female ranging from 26-56 years old. All our service users have a primary diagnosis of a mental health condition but also some have secondary diagnosis as well. We have service users who have paranoid Schizophrenia, Schizo affective disorder, emotionally unstable personality disorder, Bi- polar, substance and Alcohol misuse and Autism.
Our service users have their own tenancies for their flats, they don’t have 1-1 hours it is as and when required. Support ranges from supervising medication, support in living skills, making, and attending appointments, support into the community, shopping, life skills, setting up and paying bills, attending local activities like college, arts and craft groups and volunteering. In the mental health division, we don’t do for our service users we support to complete tasks, our service users love music, walking, going on days out, arts and crafts and all love pets, we have pets in service, dogs, cats, birds and fish.
Staff who would work well here are needed to be resilient, adaptable as one day is never the same as the other, be an active listener, approachable and friendly, have good boundaries and work as a team in a consistent approach as our service users will pick up on this straight away and could cause team splitting. Be able to manage stressful situations, be willing to support people who may be under the influence of drugs.
